In the Mayan sacred book: the Popol Vuh, it is said that the divine brothers challenged the gods of death and descended to the underworld to perform the ritual known in the Maya language as Pok ta Pok, the ball game it ows his name due to the sound that the ball produced.

The Pok ta Pok was a solemn rite which directly links astral nature with the clash of opposing elements of the universe, especially with the eternal struggle of light and darkness. So the players were transformed into Gods of light or dark as the sun, moon and stars.

This game is a kind of oracle, it all comes down to the movement of the ball, a back and forth is beaten until one player makes a mistake and dropped the ball. In front of the spectators the player is beheaded and his sacrifice will spell the end for the Sun and the destruction of the universe.
